My Happy Place

Angelo doesn't like to play with me anymore because I'm not a boy. Chriselle can finally use the potty and is talking in complete sentences. These kids are growing up so incredibly fast, I don't want to blink! I feel like I haven't been spending as much time with them as I used to because of my busy schedule. One minute they're drinking out of their sippy cups and the next minute they're drinking out of shot glasses. I can only imagine what it's like to be in my sister's shoes, but these kids definitely give me a good taste of motherhood. Thank God Thanksgiving is right around the corner so I can spend time with the loves of my life.

Back to the grind

"First year they scare you to death,
Second year they work you to death,
Third year they bore you to death"

2L is underway and I can already tell this year is going to be well worth last year's struggles. I am so thankful I finally get to take a class with Professor Leary. I've heard and read about how inspiring she is and I'm excited to experience it for myself!

"My goal in this class is for you to experience the Constitution as something that's alive" - Prof Leary in Con Law, speaking words of wisdom from day 1

Thank God for inspiring professors
Thank God for Kundalini Yoga
Thank God for YAS
Thank God for Burt
Thank God for my ever supportive friends and family

And thank God for VIDA!!

Thank you thank you thank you.

Yesterday....

Yesterday was one of those days that will cause all history textbooks around the world to publish a new edition. It was one of those days we will look back and try to remember where we were during this exact moment in history. We all remember where we were when Princess Diana died (I was playing scrabble with my parents) or when we first found out about the 9/11 attacks (I was eating breakfast watching the news before my dad drove me to school in 9th grade).

Now, where was I when one of the world's most elusive terrorists died?

I was in the library studying for my Contracts final. NOT a memory I'd like to remember!

So I was stressing out again the other day and said to my friend,

"UGGGGHHHGRWASHAKSJH*@#&^&^ WE ONLY HAVE THREE WEEKS LEFT!"

She responded, "Yeah, but we still have THREE WEEKS!"

The way you see the world really does make a difference on how you think. I am notorious for putting all this unnecessary stress and doubt on my shoulders (but to my defense - I am in a very stressful environment!) and all it takes is a new perspective to change my attitude. A new perspective, and very supportive and understanding friends. I still don't know what I want to do, but I owe it to myself to deal with the insecurities later and finish this year strong.

Special thanks to the tinybuddha community that's been inspiring me everyday!

It's 6:30AM, I have class in a couple hours, and all I want to do is sleep for a week. I've had major core issues before coming to law school that I never completely dealt with which kept creeping up this entire year and only now has it manifested into a full blown anxiety attack. Here is the reality:

1. I was uncertain about coming to law school even after doing tons of research on the legal field - employment opportunities, lifestyle, DEBT, bar passage rates, job security, DEBT....

2. I came to Whittier (4th tier) knowing I didn't want to graduate from Whittier. I, along with everyone else, wanted to transfer. I worked my ASS off first semester and can honestly say I gave 100% effort only to have a 50% return on my first semester grades. No opportunity to transfer.

3. Doing a little more research didn't help. Neither did this. Nor this.

4. Now it's turned into a huge downward spiral. I'm not in danger of getting kicked out like some of my peers, but I'm guaranteed to stay here for the next 2 years, if I decide to stay. Do I really want this? Is my heart really in this? Has it ever been? I feel like there's a reason these anxieties keep creeping up every now and then. Everytime I think back to how I started on this path and the steps I took to try to reach "my goal" ie. undergrad involvements, work, internships, etc. I know there's always been this gut feeling in me that maybe this isn't for me, maybe I'm doing this just to make my parents proud, or just to prove to myself that I can do this. But why do I feel like I have to PROVE something to anyone, even myself? I think that's what this really boils down to. It's not about passion, I don't think it ever was. I think I was using the law as a way to prove to myself and others to reach everyone's expectations and at the same time make it seem like it aligns with what I really want to do

But there's too much at stake to just use law school as a way to prove something. Now that I'm here, I know that I could do this. I know I can prove it to myself and others that I can. But is the motivation there? The passion? The drive? Not so much anymore. The decision I make in the next few months will probably be the biggest decision I have yet to make in my life.

word to the wise

So lately I've been finding myself in a lot of situations that test my beliefs. Situations where I KNOW if I still thought the way I did before, I would've made completely different decisions. When you get the opportunity to put what you learn to the test, it's a good feeling to know you made a better choice than you probably would have before. I feel like my mind rapidly expanded this past year and keeps growing faster and faster....I get so excited thinking about the person I am today and what else I'll learn in life to make me the person I'll be in the future. This is probably the first time in my life where I feel "wise" - as if in my head I'm pushing against the ceiling of young adulthood and entering another level of maturity. I honestly FEEL older on my birthday!

Anyway, lots more to discuss about the wonders of life but civpro is calling my name, adios!

wal-fart!

Walmart is seriously the greatest poster child for the American image in the media. They look like they've paved the way for the thrifty American shopper trying to get the most bang for their buck, while also giving disabled grandpa a job by greeting you with a smile when you walk inside. But behind close doors the company has some of the worst labor practices. It's so funny...after watching the news reports on the shooting of congresswoman gifford, there goes Walmart running ads on how their employees "love working at Walmart" and blah blah just because they're afraid their involvement with the shooting will leave a scar on their billion dollar company. COME ON WALMART stop wasting your money on stupid ads and start paying your employees more!

This is a great documentary on Walmart. Please watch and learn!
