Hmmm

It really, really really sucks to lose something because reality gets in the way.

I guess this is where I bring in the most overly used phrase to cope with life's curve-balls. IT IS WHAT IT IS. I used to have so many issues with this saying. To me it seemed like a cop out for accepting things the way they are - no effort to challenge, no effort to change. Can you imagine what would've happened if Obama got word of the oil spills in the gulf of Mexico and responded with "well, just accept the truth and let it be..it is what it is!" It's a statement absent of any kind of action.

Then I got to thinking, well, no politician would ever be voted into office if their platform was ACCEPT THE STATUS-QUO: IT IS WHAT IT IS! So...I guess the personal isn't always political. On a personal level, there are times when acceptance becomes key to closing doors and opening new ones. You need to face the truth - YOUR truth, regardless if it agrees with anyone else's - and just RUN with it. Stop the inner-struggle and see where it takes you. I have a knee-jerk reaction to challenge everything, so this notion of accepting reality for the way it is proves difficult for my idealism. Byron Katie's book Loving What Is: Four Questions That Can Change Your Life helped me understand why sometimes, for your own sanity, you need to dig deeper behind this assumption and that belief and love the truth for what it is (So much easier said than done, but whatever, I'm learning!)

I've read so many self-help books its kind of disgusting. I think I'm about ready to publish my own. And I'm going to call it - KEEPING IT REAL WITH KIM BLACK.
